HF: Nothing Gets You Out of Library Fees

Haiku FridayWhat was that she said?
Eh? Her ancestors were what?
I think she said “Scotch”

Old librarian
Told her the circumstances
“Sorry books are late…”

“Extended online
Had to stay one week longer”
“$1.25, please”

Ha! Work that one out!
UA* forgives 800

  1. I think it is a law somewhere that librarians need to be curmudgeons.

  2. At least it wasn’t the other way around….

  3. When we moved from TN to FL the movers packed the tote full of library books I had hidden behind the door. Our stuff was in storage for a month before we could move into our new house. At least our library understood and waived the late fee once I sent the books back. Like they would come to FL to get them back…. ha!

Maybe the old librarian had a bookworm up her @ss.

Crotchety old lady. She said Scotch instead of Scottish??

  5. Maybe you should have offered her some ‘Scotch’. Because the mispronunciation was a Freudian slip.

  6. I think getting out of a library late fee is tougher than getting out of paying your taxes. Good thing it was only 1.25!

  7. My mom got a librarian to waive her overdue fines when she forgot to return a few books after my grandfather passed away. I guess it just depends on who’s at the librarian’s desk that day!

  8. Scotch. Yep. Someone once told me that she had a quarter Scotch in her. I died with laughter but she didn’t understand.

  9. I’m pretty sure I’ve paid for our library’s new extension on my late fees alone.

  10. She may have been English (meaning that one relative two hundred years ago was English) and believed it her moral and historical duty to carry on the fight!

  11. Sheesh! What a hard a$$. Well, I’d rather have the 800 forgiven than the 1.25, so you still win. 🙂

  12. It hurts my ears when I hear a fellow American using the term Scotch for Scottish. At my town library all late fees are waved for senior citizens, which I think it quite odd since they have more time to read the books they borrow.
