We have re-scheduled everything, and what a blessing it is that United are waiving the $200-a ticket fee to change the flights. We tried to get it as far out as we could to allow enough time, not knowing when the funeral would be until today.
We had to travel to Glasgow yesterday to buy a suit for Bryan. He didn’t bring his so he would have one less pair of shoes to pack too. It really was a little unexpected to us all that she passed when she did, my brother didn’t bring his suit when he came down from Skye with his family and had to drive the 3½ hours back home again. He came back two days later. Anyway, they had it tailored and back to us today after lunch, free of charge.
The funeral is this Friday at 1 p.m. We head back to Heathrow on Monday and fly out Tuesday. I wish I had been able to get online more and share more, but it just hasn’t been possible.
Thank you for your support, it really has buoyed me up.
How nice of United to waive the $200 fee!
Not that these things are ever fun, but I’m glad you get to be there for the funeral. My mom didn’t want me to fly to the UK for my grandmother’s funeral (“So much money, and there’s nothing you can do for her – no one expects you to come!”), but it was SO worth it for the family time.
very decent of united to reschedule your flights with no fee. and good of the clothing store to have the alterations finished so quickly. i’ll be thinking of you and your family on friday.
don’t worry – you’ll have lots of time to share about your trip once you get back. it will be just as interesting then, and you won’t have used any of the limited time you have with your family, doing something that could wait until later.
Just goes to show that people can be decent, caring and understanding during times such as these. Shows the human spirit. I wish your family well and strength. Return home safely.
I’m glad there are decent people and companies still out there. My prayers are still with you & we wish you a safe trip home.
So glad you were there for this time! It would have been sooo much harder on you had you not gotten this time with her… I’m glad things are working out for you day by day.. God is good. Be blessed with the extra family time..
So so sorry your Gran passed away – but I am pleased you got to spend time with her and say the things you needed to stay. I think staying for the funeral will help you and your family tremendously, I will be thinking of you. Safe trip back this way
I am really sorry to hear about your gran but its lovely that you got to see her in her final days. I hope you are all keeping well
That’s good news about the flights. I just wanted to say I’m thinking of you all and I hope everything goes as well as possible.
That’s great about United. To be honest, I wouldn’t have expected that, so kudos to them.
Have a safe trip back.
That was very decent of United … you don’t hear of that sort of thing very often these days.
I hope all goes well with the funeral, and safe trip back.
don’t worry about us. we’ll be here when you get back.
I’m sorry to read that your grandmother has passed away. May the God of all comfort wrap his arms around you and your family to console you during these days. I will pray for ya’ll.
So glad you were able to save so much money for rescheduling your flights. At least some things are working out for you. I’m glad you have been able to spend time with your family. Don’t worry about your blog “friends”…we’ll all be here when you get back. I hope your trip back is safe and goes as smoothly as your trip over there was. Take care…
I’m glad to hear there are still people in this world with a little compassion. Travel safe.
Sending prayers for you and your family. Have a safe and calm trip back.
How nice that there are still some companies with compassion.
Sending prayers your way.
I hope the service for your Gran was lovely and comforting. From what I can tell, she deserved nothing less than that.
Have a safe journey home.
So sorry about your grandmother. At least you were there and got to spend some time with her. Have a safe trip home. I hope you get to show Bryan some of your old stomping grounds while you are there! 🙂
I’m very sorry that your Gran passed away, Siobhan. You were blessed with a special relationship and I’m very glad that everything worked out so that you could be there for the funeral. We’ll all look forward to reading about your long journey after you’re home and rested.
I’m sorry for your loss, but I’m glad you were able to say your good-byes. It’s good that she was surrounded by family and that you all were able to support one another during this trying time. Have a safe trip home.
This must be such a bittersweet time for you…getting to be with your loved ones in your own country, but experiencing a loss at the same time. You will always be so glad you were there, though. Glad you didn’t have to pay the awful fee!
I thought about you the whole time I was in England. I’m so glad that United did as they did and that alterations were made and so on. But most importantly, I’m glad you were there WHEN you were there.
Thinking of you….
